How’s That Grand Trine Going for ya?

Okay y’all…I’m back, and I think you know what I’m about to talk about. Yup! That Grand Water Trine! Mercury and Mars just moved over the trigger point, and I’d like to take a few moments to share how the energy has impacted me so far.

First, Let’s Review the Details

In astrology, what matters the most is how the transiting planets interact with your personal natal chart, so that is what you always analyze for personal growth. However—because so many planets are blending energies harmoniously inside of The Grand Trine in Water…when one of them impacts your natal chart, all of them will. In other words: it’s like Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury and Mars have combined into one huge super-planet, their energies working together like white on rice. Yes, I know that is a grand theory and not, technically, how astrology works….but it’s the best way to describe the ENERGY of the Grand Trine, not the astrological rules surrounding it.

Real World Use

One of the most important aspects forming in my natal chart is transiting Jupiter sitting opposite my North Node (180 degrees away), and since Jupiter is trine Saturn (120 degrees away), Saturn is sextile my North Node (60 degrees away), because: Math. LOL! Last week, Mercury and Mars conjoined to create the same pattern: a trine to Jupiter and Saturn and a sextile to my North Node, so because this is where the energy is pointing, this is where I’m focusing my attention.

The North Node

What is the North Node? There are MANY schools of thought about the Lunar Nodes, and lots of folks out there have different beliefs around their utility. I didn’t pay much attention to them until the last few years rolled around and they pulled some nonsense on me that I didn’t quite like! LOL! But they got my attention, so I’ve learned to read the potential energy they will deliver into my life when they are highly activated—as they are now, for me.

The North and South Nodes are mathematical calculations based off of the relative positions of the Sun, Earth and Moon. They are not planetary bodies at all, but lunar points, so you can’t look up and see them in the skies the way we can look up and see the moon, but they have a significant astrological impact.

The nodes represent our karma; the North Node—those lessons we came here to learn, the skills we came here to develop and the destiny we are supposed to master. The South Node represents those karmic lessons we’ve already mastered, so because those skills come easily to us we tend to rely upon them a little bit too much. Like a crutch. Our purpose in life, though, is to master the area our North Node lies in. It’s an uncomfortable place for us to exist, because we simply don’t know how to function there. That’s why we’re supposed to learn.

As with everything astrological, there is so much more to learn about the Nodes, but it takes a book to deliver the full message. My favorite is Lunar Nodes: Discover your soul’s karmic mission, by Celeste Teal. It’s worth the read.

My North Node is in Capricorn, so my karmic lesson in this lifetime is to learn to step into leadership and master great responsibility. I’m meant to work hard towards success, independence, self-reliance, competency, and achievement. With its location in the third house, the best way for me to master these lessons is to immerse myself in third house matters: communication, writing, speaking, community and travel.

With Jupiter opposite my North Node, that means it’s automatically conjunct my South Node (because the nodes are always opposite one another). Jupiter brings expansion, fortune, luck, favor….opportunity. Because it’s blending its energy with the South Node, that suggests that I may become more inclined to fall back into old, familiar habits to the point where I’m not doing the work I should be focused on. With the South Node in Cancer, those habits might be to seclude into home and family life, letting those concerns distract me from developing the skills necessary for me to achieve what I’m here to achieve in my career. Legitimate distractions or not, there must be balance between home and family (those skills I’ve already mastered), and career and achievement (what I’m here to learn). Jupiter sitting in this position activating my nodes brings both a warning and a heads-up: don’t fall too far back into old habits. Keep all aspects of family and career in balance. Even if family life delivers reasons to push career goals aside for a moment—find a way to get back to career quickly and keep up. Work hard. Success will come if I don’t let up. I might also expect to see opportunities come my way that I hadn’t expected—but with Jupiter doing what Jupiter does, I might need to make sure they are realistic opportunities that I can actually achieve, and that they are in alignment with future growth—not past comforts.

The next aspect I’m side-eyeing is Saturn in sextile to my North Node—trine the South Node. I say side-eyeing because the planet in question is Saturn, and I don’t love Saturn. He mean. 😀 Also: Saturn rules Capricorn, which is where my North Node is, and i’onlike Capricorn either, because it’s all about business or career matters. I think people do some awful things in the name of business and success, and it’s never been something I’ve been comfortable embracing. It’s always felt cold and impersonal in a way that makes no sense to me. We spend so much of our lives embedded in career, and I’m just not someone who wants to be detached and strategically looking over my shoulder all the time. It doesn’t make for a successful relationship with career when you’re in the wrong type of business environment. This is no judgment on others—I just never believed I had what it takes, and so I ended up overly exerting myself to prove my worth even though I had the capacity to lead, and I ended up drained in the end, never able to really enjoy the fruits of my labor. All that said, finding success and achievement in my career is my destiny—and Saturn RULES OVER THIS AREA…..and he’s making a lovely aspect to my North Node right now, which means I expect this is the perfect time to learn what I’ve never quite been able to learn before and I don’t intend to let the opportunity pass me by.

I’m still side-eyeing Saturn though. He better play nice! And I expect that he will. The aspects Saturn is making to my nodes are pretty beautiful, no matter how you look at it. Both the trine and sextile aspects offer an ease in connection and communication, so even though Saturn is a harsh taskmaster, the lessons he will deliver will be sent with a softness that he is not typically able to offer. Where Jupiter may want to send me opportunities to fall back into the comforting embrace of home and family, Saturn will help me keep my focus on my career and learn how to balance both. While Jupiter may want to send me business opportunities that may feel overwhelming and unachievable, Saturn will send me the resources I’ll need to learn how to get ish done.

In essence, these two powerhouse planets are set to deliver some lessons that might actually help me succeed in life if I pay attention and move the right way at the right time, so my theme for the next few months is set to be this: When I move you move! (Just like that!). Jupiter and Saturn will be making the moves in trine with one another through the end of this year, and I’ll be listening closely, moving in the direction spirit tells me to move.

But what about those faster moving planets? Jupiter and Saturn’s work will be steady and consistent for the next few months, and so I see the faster-moving planets as supporting players, triggering the activation point for the Grand Trine, and adding their own flavor of energy and potentialities to the mix.

Last week, Mercury moved into aspect to create the Grand Trine on October 22^nd. Mercury is the messenger of the gods, ruling over communication of all kinds. It represents our intellect, commerce, travel and technology. Mercury is how we think, how we speak, how we write. It is how we express ourselves, even in our thought processes. It actually rules over the third house in astrological tradition, where my North Node lives, so it’s closely tied to my destiny. Soon after Mercury moved into aspect last week, I began to receive messages strongly urging me to expand the reach of my business and begin to build a community around it. I wasn’t focused on that because I had no idea how to do it, but it made sense. I mean—why do the work of building a website and creating content if I’m the only one enjoying it? And so I began to tap into the resources that are available to me, even though I don’t know exactly which steps to take, what methods will work, or what the outcome will be. I know that I’ll find the right combination of outreach and connectivity that will create the community I’m working towards, as long as I don’t give up, adapt to what works best for my business, and keep tabs on what best serves the community. As long as I keep learning.

Soon after Mercury made his moves, Mars joined him in a conjunction. Mars is our warrior. He is our passion, our desire, our energy. Mars dictates how we act, how we respond, how naturally aggressive we tend to be. Mars, is our GO. And so, while Jupiter and Saturn work towards getting me to my destiny, and while Mercury whispered inspired messages in my ear giving me a specific focus…while I got a bit lost and wondered exactly what to do and how to do it, Mars came along and said: “JUST DO IT!!!!!” real loud and proud and insistent.

And so I did. And here we are. And here I will continue.

Mars will remain in aspect in the Grand Water Trine until around 11/3/2025, stimulating action in alignment with discipline and opportunity. By the time he moves on, my plan is to have a solid structure in place so that I can begin decoding what is going to get me to success, and then the Sun will come along to add its warm rays to the mix by mid-November, possibly changing the focus of my actions. We’ll find out when that time comes.

Until then, I know what kind of energy is flowing my way because I’ve done the work to understand how the planets are interacting with my natal chart, so even if no magical opportunities or resources drop into my lap—I know what my focus will be, and I know now is not the time to let up, no matter how hard it might get. And so I move ahead with no expectations, but a plan that I will stick to—no matter what. On their own, these planets might not have done much to stimulate my North Node, but because they are riding the waves of that Grand Water Trine, their energy is amplified and cohesive—delivering a coherent message and offering me the energy I need to harness success and so in my heart? I know the heavens are going to support me.

They already are.
