Getting personal with Astrology!
9/16/2025:
Astrology!
I am, by no means, an expert astrologer. I LOVE astrology…but I’m no expert. Still, I’ve been studying it (very casually!) forever, so I’ve learned enough to understand my own chart.
I’ve never felt the need to dive deeper than the surface—because I’ve found that there’s enough there on the surface to point me in the right direction and keep me busy. And there is so, so much info packed into astrology that studying just “the surface” takes yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaarrrs, especially when you are doing it as a hobby.
Recently, That Big One and That Little One have made sure I know I am a dinosaur. Old as time. Ancient. And you know what? They are right and I claim my title of The Wise Crone with honor and dignity! LOL! But also: things have changed.
Duh….right? But really, it used to be that we knew things, and we knew things because we studied things, and then when we spoke about all the things—we did so based on what we knew and studied, and those things aligned with what other people who studied the same topic knew.
Not so much, anymore. This is good and bad, and either way: it is what it is. It’s a new world.
There are things, though, that I do not always appreciate about the newness of this world, for in making way for the new—we have lost some valuable assets of old. We have shortcuts to learning nowadays, and no longer rely on reputable sources. Many of us do not even question the validity of our sources; for some—just making the claim is enough to make it true. The thing is: with an ancient system of divination like astrology that comes with rules and structure, ignoring those rules and jumping straight to the claims does not make your claims true. It just makes you loud and wrong.
I am not talking about folks who casually discuss astrology on the internet or make hilarious tik-toks about sun signs (some of which are kind of on point!).
I am not talking about actual experts who use intuition and integrate astrology with other systems of divination and tools of introspection.
I am not talking about experts who transform astrology into a creative, updated tool by using it to craft a new type of system that is helpful to people on their spiritual journey.
I am talking about people who didn’t study and therefore don’t know what they are talking about creating whole communities, then teaching said communities the wrong things, perpetuating ignorance that takes off at the speed of the internet.
And I would love to see that change. I would love to see a desire for core knowledge return. And some of my work will be to share the bits and pieces of core knowledge I have with y’all.
Whew! Now that’s off my chest, Imma move on with what I wanted to take a look at in the middle of this week.
Like I said, I already gave my disclaimer that I AM NOT AN EXPERT!!! I am, however, knowledgeable enough to help folks understand the basics and some ways we can use astrology to help guide our own lives.
First and foremost, the astrological forecasts you read online—if you can find a decent astrologer—is for the general collective and not for you on an individual level. This does not mean they are not useful. They give you information about what is happening in the skies, and if you use the information for further research—you can see how it might impact you. That’s how I learned astrology—I learned about the basics based off general sun-sign readings, taking the transits and looking them up to learn about them, eventually diving into my own natal chart. Nowadays, there are tons of websites that will run a natal report for you if you have your birth date and time, so it’s not hard at all to get your hands on that information.
With the energy this week, where we are sitting in between eclipses, I wanted to take a look at my own personal transits and see how the energy might hit me on a personal level, so I booted up my beloved Time Passages and pulled those transits up.
I’m not going to make this a whole lesson (who are we kidding YES I AMMMMMM!!!!!), but in general—as the planets, stars, asteroids and astrological points like the nodes move through the heavens, they impact us the MOST when they make significant contact (aspects or angles) to specific planets, stars, asteroids and points in our own chart. Any program that produces a transit report for you will list all the major transits, along with the type of aspect they are forming, and whether they are moving towards the peak point of the energy (FORMING aspect where the energy builds up to the point of exact contact) or moving away from it (FADING aspect where the energy begins to dissipate). There are also interpretations down to the node/asteroid/star level, but you might have to dig around a bit more, for those. I mention this to highlight that the reason why astrology works on an individual level is because there are so many moving pieces in the skies that none of us could ever be exactly alike. From the human vantage point—we only see a drop in the bucket, and even that drop contains an extraordinary amount of matter. We might share similar qualities with other folks based on one of our Big three—which is why Sun Sign astrology is so popular—but those differences? That’s what differentiates one Gemini from the next and depending on how your natal chart is structured and where the energy is focused—you might actually be unrecognizable as a Gemini, even if that is your sun sign. This is why it’s important to know your own natal chart, intimately.
This brings me back to how I’m using it this week to help see what may or may not be coming for me during this upcoming Lunar Eclipse and fall equinox.
When I pull up my transits, I start by looking for patterns. And if I see one that’s big enough—I’ll spend some time researching it. For this coming eclipse, I noticed one huge pattern, almost immediately: My natal moon is getting hit. BY EVERYTHING. Literally every transiting planetary body is making some kind of significant contact with my natal moon during this coming eclipse.
That’s quite a pattern.
Let’s talk about the moon. In astrology, the moon represents your emotions. It represents how you tend to respond, how you feel, what you need. The moon is reactive. She’s looking for security and safety. She’s protecting you. She is not out there in the forefront: she is our subconscious, so when we react, it is on autopilot—but that autopilot has been programmed by our natal moon.
It takes a minute to recognize what our moon represents for us—and HOW our moon shows up for us, but when we do? It is amazing when it clicks. You begin to understand why you always react in fear, or react with aggression, or with impossible patience, or react…however you tend to naturally react. And when you understand something, you can shift it into a thing that is more beneficial for you and to you.
There’s also the way our physical body responds to the moon. Does science support this? Not right now, no. But science doesn’t support anything it doesn’t look at seriously and at great length. It only has enough information right now to claim what it does not know, and when it knows better? It will do better. Right now, I know what my body is doing and whether it’s a normal pattern or not. And this right here? It’s a moon pattern. I only recently coined “the moon pattern” because it’s only been in recent years that I began to recognize how vehemently my body reacts to the cycles of the moon. And this right here? Issa whole MOON pattern.
It’s 12:16am and I am hyped up. I’m full of energy, after three nights of not sleeping for more than four hours. I woke at 5:30am and stayed up, which is not normal, for me. It’s normal to wake up in the middle of the night, but I typically go back to sleep and / or take a nap during the day to balance out rest. That didn’t’ happen today, though. I just got more hyped.
Because I have been paying very careful attention, journaling and documenting everything, I know for certain that this only happens during moon cycles that are particularly powerful; the cycles that are potent with energy and / or connect with my natal chart in large ways. It also happens during other heavy energetic cycles. I soak up the energy physically and it impacts me in ways that align with the energy of that particular cycle. I can be super-hyped up and energetic, or very laid back and exhausted, or very emotional, or overly irritable…or some combination of these things.
This time, I’m all the things (except irritable). I’m moving from being super-hyped and productive, to being so exhausted I have to find the energy to finish small things. I’ve been emoting all over the place. There are so many tears! And I also feel at peace, extra productive, happy and just…normal—despite the extra energy and emotions. Looking at my moon and seeing the sheer number of transits it is undergoing—my physical and emotional response makes a lot of sense. For me, the next question is this: Because there is so much activity happening at that one point in my natal chart, which aspects are making the biggest impact?
Again, we look at patterns. Earlier, we talked about forming vs fading aspects. If the aspect is forming, that means it’s moving closer and closer to it’s peak—where it will become exact and the energy culminates. If it is fading, it has already moved past it’s peak, but it is still active. Just dissipating. And so…I immediately noticed that most of the aspects hitting my moon were fading. That means that energy is dissipating, which is a whole analogy in and of itself….but also: I’m not going to focus on those aspects, because they are likely getting lost in the overall sauce. There are 2 transits, though, that I AM going to focus on. The transiting sun and moon.
On 9/21/2025 at 3:54pm, we have the New Moon, right in the middle of the Partial Solar Eclipse at the last degree of Virgo, which takes place from 1:29pm to 5:53pm, EST, so the Sun and Moon were already highlighted, right? Because they are sitting on top of my natal moon, that brings the collective energy down to something very personal, for me. It means that my moon is going to be highly activated, and because the moon represents emotions, my behavior is going to change. I understand now, why I’ve been feeling more at peace, more aware of my emotional state, happy and more in control of how I respond, even when the tears flow. That’s because the Sun is combining its energy with my moon in one of the most powerful aspects we have in astrology: the conjunction. And this conjunction, this union of Sun and Moon, is pulling all of those roiling emotions up from the depths of the subconscious where the moon likes to keep them. They are being pulled into my conscious eye and because of that—I can be more aware of them, and more in control of them.
That was a really long-winded way to say: I am more aware of my feelings. 😀 But Emotional awareness is one of the main interpretations we see when the transiting sun is conjunct the natal moon.
The moon also represents The Divine Feminine, bringing in themes of intuition, creation, fertility and renewal. As an energy worker, I find that the meanings of the moon across various traditions, modalities and means of divination are similar. Emotions. Feminine. Intuition. Subconscious. Home and hearth. Receptivity. That makes this particular personal transit an easier one to integrate with the overall energetic themes of the now, crafting intentional goals that align with universal energy; making successful interactions and experiences more likely. In other words, if I know that my emotions are going to be a bit more intense and on the surface; if I know that I will be more emotionally aware, then I will be intentional about taking a pause before I react to make sure I’m responding with thought and care, and not with projections or from triggers or another shadowy emotion.
One might say that this is what ALL of us should be doing anyway, but astrology says something different. My moon is naturally passionate, loud, and she tends to make snap judgments, be very empathetic and sensitive—hyper aware of other’s emotions, body language and words. Because of this, I developed the tendency to avoid popping off and I will bury emotions until I am at a point where I can’t do anything but let them come out—and they tend to come out in rather strong ways. Either that, or I will respond in a highly emotional way that doesn’t always feel good for other people—and not even be fully aware of the impact I have made, because the moon? She likes to keep it on the DL, remember?
However someone else may have a moon that is naturally judicial, indecisive, and highly empathic. This might mean they are naturally patient, see all sides of the equation and have developed the tendency to be non-combative, non-judgmental, and not very assertive or communicative about their needs. Under a transit where the Sun might be encouraging them to pull those emotions to the surface, they might begin to respond with more anger and directness than they are used to. They may behave in ways that neither they nor the people who know them are used to, and this can cause stress if they are unaware of the astrological impacts of the moment. If they are aware of the transits though; if they know that the Sun is asking them to be more open and honest about their needs and in their communication process—they can set the intention to recognize their discomfort, and choose to respond with more openness. That might mean that instead of taking that pause, they need to move forward with sureness, speaking the truth with boldness.
I love astrology. If we make it personal and do the work, it offers rich moments of growth, for all of us.
