Sad Watermelon: The Reality about Reality

I’m not even gonna try to be fancy, for this post. Today is Monday and it Mondayed like no Monday has every Mondayed before.

Very regular. Very irritating. Very exhausting.

The Amazing News:

  • I stayed on task for the whole day. The whole day!

  • Breakfast is done for one kid tomorrow—just heat and eat. The other one has requested pancakes. Blueberry pancakes. I have ideas around what lunch will be and a solid plan to make sure we are on time tomorrow morning.

  • It was a good day. Productive.

  • My youngest learned a good lesson about fermentation and backpacks. See Monday-like news for details.

  • I have amazing kids who I love dearly.

Monday-like news:

  • I didn’t get to do anything other than work and make food for peoples. It’s 8:41pm. I’ve been going since 5:30am and I’m still sitting here trying to sort through all the things and while I was doing that? The kid reminded me we needed some staples for school lunch tomorrow, so I had to click-click real fast before the grocery store closed so I could get what they need for tomorrow delivered and keep working. I didn’t check the bank account before I did that, so I have no idea what is about to happen, but we ’bout to find out. Glad it was a small order. 😀

  • That Little One is now demanding tea. At almost 9pm. And he hasn’t taken out the garbage. And his thermos is dirty. And he doesn’t know how to make his own tea, just yet. And his lunchbox is mysteriously missing from the kitchen.

  • That Little One has found his lunchbox—the one I told him several times to leave in the kitchen last Thursday when he got home from school. It is full of fresh watermelon that is no longer fresh, but has fermented and EXPLODED over the course of the 5 days it’s been sitting in the lunchbox inside of his backpack. The smell is alarming. The funky scoobidy-juice is all over everything AND DRIPPING AS I CARRY IT TO THE SINK. I am now washing his backpack and lunchbox and hoping they aren’t ruined in the washer.

  • That Big One has brought down conditioner and a giant bag of laundry that he needs clean for tomorrow morning, so I guess I’ll be up until midnight washing and drying clothes, cause I already had a load going in there. And the backpack and lunchbox are ahead in the queue.

  • The conditioner? That’s for his hair. He needs it re-twisted for his wildly beautiful twist-out tomorrow. That’s an hour of work.

  • I am realizing I am not great at this whole management thing. How do you all do this AND work AND be in relationships? I can’t even imagine!

  • I’m hungry. And I want to sleep.

  • Someone upstairs is playing video games and screaming in joy while I’m down here washing clothes and planning out morning meals and they need to go to bed!

I AM GRATEFUL FOR!!!!!!!!:

  • A Working Washing machine AND Dryer in my home

  • Healthy food to eat—along with nonsense treats to make the healthy stuff go down easier

  • Instacart

  • Money in a bank account for Instacart even though it was probably supposed to pay another bill

  • People who are willing to deal with a last-minute grocery store run when I don’t have the time

  • Birds who sing all day

  • Birds who shut the ef up when it gets dark, cause I done effed around and found out that birdsong is lovely but constant birdsong is trifling

  • The internets

  • $5.00 Rotisserie Chicken

  • Little Blue

  • Spirit Teams who tell you when you need to get your whole life together with all the love in the world

  • That Little One and That Big One

  • 🙂
